Well I have now received flyers and posters and yesterday and today I have been out and about distributing them.
Yesterday I was at Harbord Village and spoke to most of the shopkeepers there, the response I received was a very positive one and most were happy to put a poster in their windows, then one of my friends Brian joined me outside the growers market where we handed out flyers to some of the people who passed by.
I met an interesting man there and as I handed him a flyer he told me he was from Tweed Heads so there wasn't much point, I agreed but then he said he would definately vote for me as he has played for Manly as did his father in 1957 alongside Rex Mossop, I think he said his name was Ron Woods and after checking the website I found that Ron Woods played 20 games from 1957 to 1963.
Anyway this man said he was going to Steve Menzies farewell at the Manly Leagues Club this Friday night, I told him I also was going and that I would take his photo and put it up on the Manly website for hm.
It is a very small world when you think about it isn't it.
Today my wife and I did letter box drops in Pacific Pde Dee Why, I still have quite a lot of flyers left and will endeavour to do more during the week.

THE MAIN REASON I ACCEPTED
There are a number of reasons why I said I would stand for Council but the main one was that Brookvale Oval always was the home ground of the Manly Sea Eagles and in my humble opinion should remain so.
I strongly request all who can vote in Warringah, do so with the thought in the back of their brain that given the opportunity, a minority group who are basically opposed to Manly playing out of Brookvale Oval may win and take away all our heritage, but most importantly take away our future.

INTRODUCING MYSELF
Hello, my name is Bernard Buko and I am first and foremost a Manly supporter, I also ride a big Harley Davidson motorcycle so you can see straight away I have at least 2 major interests, this is not totally correct as I have another passion, "Photography".
Even though I have worked in the Security industry for approx 30 years I have just established my photography business, I have a website where you can see my style of photography and also contact me, www.bernardphotography.com.au, do yourself a favour and go and take a look.
Anyway back to being a Manly supporter, I have been going to Brookvale oval since 1966 and have always followed Manly, during the Super League War my interest wained as my team was forced into a dodgy merger with Norths, I still followed them as the Northern Eagles but didn't attend any matches during this period.
In 2002 when the merger seemed doomed I returned to watch the games and became involved on a website with the Manly Eagle Rockers, a supporter group with a website and who met on the Hill at Brookie every home game but also travelled to every away game through the season, I quickly made great mates in this group, some of whom I still associate with today, I was also made Secretary of this group a short time later, I position I still hold as well as a Website Administrator.
Due to my involvement with this supporter group and due to 2 serious accidents at work where I required 2 spine surgeries and was off work for a long period of time, I was able to attend Manly training sessions and become involved with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Football Club, I became known as "Sgt or Sarge" to everyone associted with the football club, I got to know all the players and administrators of the club.
My association with the club was further improved when Peter "Zorba" Peters asked me to administrate the football forum due to many unwelcome visitors to that site. I did this for a couple of years and became even more known by supporters all over including NSW, Qld, WA, NZ and overseas, the name Sgt was pretty well know, I was asked for many favours as a go between between the supporters and club and my profile raised even further in doing so.
I thought there was one thing missing during this period and that was photo's of players and action photo's from games, especially for supporters from other regions who could not attend games, so I started taking photo's and displaying them on the forum, this became a very looked forward to Monday event after a Manly game so I continued doing this and have upgraded my camera equipment every year or so up to what I have today.
As the Club became more succsesful after the merger debacle I was told I wasn't needed anymore and someone else took over, I still kept up my photo's though and still do so today, I now take over 900 photo's from every game and upload many onto the Manly Sea Eagles official website, last week alone I uploaded approx 80 photo's.
I have never asked for anything in return, I do it for the love of the club and the joy I get from taking them, I have parents of the lower grade players giving me their e-mail addresses so I can send photo's of their son's in action, something unheard of years ago, I do it all for free as a reward so to speak for the enjoyment their son's playing for Manly gives me.
I am still well known and still have some fans come over to say hello when they see me at the games, I feel proud to provide my service to the club I love.
Now because of my notoriety around the games and club I have been asked to stand for Council at the next Council elections, I felt honoured to be asked as I have never even thought about this sort of activity, I thought what the heck, I have nothing to loose and everything to gain and if I can make a difference it would be a worthwhile activity.
My platform will be "Save Brookvale Oval" under the "We Love Warringah" banner, something I feel very strongly about and something I will do anything to keep for the fans of our great club.
Between now and the time of the elections I will be doing everything I can to remind people of the importance of this oval, not only for Manly Sea Eagle supporters but for every person who requires this oval and hopefully future stadium for their sport in this area.
Stay tuned for my next post and let all your friends know that now is the time to stand up and say something if they want to have Brookie remain the home of the Manly Sea Eagles.
